The United States Association of Cider Makers (USACM), an organization of U.S. cider and perry producers that gathers and shares information about cider production, regulations and more, will lend its support to innovative research projects that have the potential to impact the cider industry.
Following CiderCON, where attendees were surveyed about their interest in having more research conducted in the cider industry, a grant program was developed with funding from the USACM. With over 90% of respondents requesting additional research and 91% willing to participate in on-site research, the project has come to life.
These results show that there is a great need for research from many different disciplines, including horticulture and related plant sciences, food science, agricultural engineering and agricultural economics, to work with cider apple growers and cider producers to support this rapidly expanding industry.
The USACM has set aside $50,000 for the 2016 funding cycle. The funds will be distributed to as many projects as possible.
